How productized design works
A productized design service decides the scope, price and process in advance and publishes them. You pick the package, pay the listed price, and submit a brief through a standard intake. There is no discovery phase, proposal or Statement of Work, because the answers are already on the pricing page.
The model borrows from software: the same package is delivered the same way to every client, which makes the price predictable for the buyer and the work repeatable for the studio.
Common productized design models
Most productized design services use one of three shapes:
- Design subscription: a flat monthly fee for unlimited requests worked one or a few at a time (for example, $2,495 a month)
- Hour-banked retainer: a published monthly package of designer hours, such as 40, 80 or 120 hours
- Fixed-price package or sprint: one deliverable at one price, such as a logo or a pitch deck in 3 to 5 days
Productized vs custom agency work
Custom agency work fits problems that need research and strategy before anyone designs, such as naming or a full rebrand. Productized design fits the steady flow of work a marketing team ships every month: ads, landing pages, decks, email and social. Many teams use both.
